About Me

When I started my retirement travels in 2009, I wanted a way to share it with family and friends as it was happening. Hence, "My Travel Journal". However I realized I wouldn't always be on a trip and wondered what to do with the blog in between times. My daughter pointed out, wisely, that travels can also include trips to the kitchen to try a new recipe, trips to visit family, trips to my neighborhood Starbucks, or a fun day trip with a friend. You're welcome to join me on any of these journeys! I've set up individual pages for each of my major trips (see tabs above).

Also, I have an Etsy shop where my current needlework resides. The last pieces I posted here were in 2013! So if you'd like to see what I have accomplished recently, go to (and I apologize for having to copy and paste):

I recently added an "Italian Word a Day" thingie which shows up at the bottom of every page. You see the word and can click to hear it pronounced. I've been enjoying it and I think my accent is improving as time goes by.

A Few Details of My Italian Adventure...

So here I am less than a month away from my departure date of September 18 when I will be flying the friendly skies of Air France to Florence, via Paris! I will be in Italy until October 6 and will be staying first in Florence, then out to a little hilltop medieval village in Tuscany - Montefioralle (pictured here - isn't it incredible?!)- then back to Florence and on to Bologna, which everyone seems to agree is where one finds the quintessential Italian cuisine. Since I love all things Italian, but particularly the food, I felt compelled to include Bologna on my itinerary. Notice I say "I included it on my itinerary". That's because I have planned this whole trip myself, booking all my lodgings, finding various activities to try while there (cooking classes, tours, etc.), figuring out how to get from one place to the next (which I'm still not real sure about!), and so on. I will be traveling alone and I have to admit that as the date draws closer, I find myself getting just a little nervous...or to be more blunt, I find myself periodically silently screaming "what in the world do you think you're doing?!"

Until I actually get there, I doubt if I will have too many posts after this one. I just wanted to see if I could actually set one up and figure it all out, and ... I guess I can!

Arrivederci!

That is one beautiful hilltop village... I have to put Italy on my list, perhaps as the very next destination, now that I'm slowly becoming a world traveler. Can't wait to hear your reviews/experiences!
