About Me

When I started my retirement travels in 2009, I wanted a way to share it with family and friends as it was happening. Hence, "My Travel Journal". However I realized I wouldn't always be on a trip and wondered what to do with the blog in between times. My daughter pointed out, wisely, that travels can also include trips to the kitchen to try a new recipe, trips to visit family, trips to my neighborhood Starbucks, or a fun day trip with a friend. You're welcome to join me on any of these journeys! I've set up individual pages for each of my major trips (see tabs above).

Also, I have an Etsy shop where my current needlework resides. The last pieces I posted here were in 2013! So if you'd like to see what I have accomplished recently, go to (and I apologize for having to copy and paste):

I recently added an "Italian Word a Day" thingie which shows up at the bottom of every page. You see the word and can click to hear it pronounced. I've been enjoying it and I think my accent is improving as time goes by.

Sophia is Five Years Old Today!

YIPPEEEEE!!!

And here's a picture of a crown she and I worked on together that she'll wear tonight with her birthday dress:

The crown is very bejeweled and sparkly which sad to say doesn't show up in the picture.  I gave her this little kit that makes several crowns with "stick by number" jewels that you glue on and she loved it.  I always feel like my presents are pretty much dumb, but this one really hit a home run.

And, one can only imagine what talents Sophia will develop during her fifth year based on her incredible interior decorating skills as evidenced in this picture of the table arrangement she made on mom's dining room table for Christmas!

I asked her mom "you mean she even did the candlesticks?!" and, yes, she did.  I'd say the flair is there. :)

Tonight Aunts January and Maggie will come up, have their Christmas with Heather and Alex and the kiddies, and Sophia will get to open some birthday presents and then we will have an ice cream cake (mm-mmm).

Meanwhile, Johnny trundled off to school this morning with his cello on his back and tonight we'll go watch him at his fencing class!!  Amazing...
