About Me

When I started my retirement travels in 2009, I wanted a way to share it with family and friends as it was happening. Hence, "My Travel Journal". However I realized I wouldn't always be on a trip and wondered what to do with the blog in between times. My daughter pointed out, wisely, that travels can also include trips to the kitchen to try a new recipe, trips to visit family, trips to my neighborhood Starbucks, or a fun day trip with a friend. You're welcome to join me on any of these journeys! I've set up individual pages for each of my major trips (see tabs above).

Also, I have an Etsy shop where my current needlework resides. The last pieces I posted here were in 2013! So if you'd like to see what I have accomplished recently, go to (and I apologize for having to copy and paste):

I recently added an "Italian Word a Day" thingie which shows up at the bottom of every page. You see the word and can click to hear it pronounced. I've been enjoying it and I think my accent is improving as time goes by.

By Special Request...

Back last week sometime, my friend Shelly called to see if I wanted to meet at Starbucks for a visit and I said sure but would she like to come have a bowl of chili first?  She did and we had a nice visit here and then went to Starbucks and visited some more.  She was kind enough to say she really liked the chili and was I ever going to post that recipe to my blog.  I said I definitely would and now here a week has gone by and so my apologies to Shelly!  But now, I've just put a pot of what may or may not turn out to be edible into the oven to cook for a couple of hours.  I found a nice half pound package of stew meat at the store a couple days ago and thought "I'll try that with the Moroccan spices and see what I think".  So that's what's cooking now - it sure does smell good but I'm not sure how it will turn out.  I never seem to be real successful with stew beef - it always seems to remain hard, unchewable lumps of meat.  But try, try again is my motto!

Anyway, here is the link to the chili recipe which starts out with how I cook my pot roast since I now use leftover pot roast meat to make the chili. And, of course, I've put it in my Recipe Collection index also.

Any questions - let me know...

I bet that your friend Shelly might wish you'd just invite her for chili again cause your recipe sounds like a lot of work but, of course, it's a bunch of meals so maybe she'll give it a try. I can vouch for it being good!! Your trip to Charleston sounds really fun and pleasant -- maybe I should fly into Charleston the next time I visit. I don't remember hearing about your Moroccan spices so I'll be interested to know what they were and how the stew turned out. I'm really bored with my cooking endeavors these days. xoxo
