About Me

When I started my retirement travels in 2009, I wanted a way to share it with family and friends as it was happening. Hence, "My Travel Journal". However I realized I wouldn't always be on a trip and wondered what to do with the blog in between times. My daughter pointed out, wisely, that travels can also include trips to the kitchen to try a new recipe, trips to visit family, trips to my neighborhood Starbucks, or a fun day trip with a friend. You're welcome to join me on any of these journeys! I've set up individual pages for each of my major trips (see tabs above).

Also, I have an Etsy shop where my current needlework resides. The last pieces I posted here were in 2013! So if you'd like to see what I have accomplished recently, go to (and I apologize for having to copy and paste):

I recently added an "Italian Word a Day" thingie which shows up at the bottom of every page. You see the word and can click to hear it pronounced. I've been enjoying it and I think my accent is improving as time goes by.

Autumn on the farm - Woodbine, MD

Spending a long weekend with my daughter and her husband, my two grandkiddies, and a multitude of various animals - alpacas, chickens of all sorts of different breeds, turkeys, peacocks, goats, two cats and two kittens, 4 dogs, and a beautiful pheasant and his two female companions (poor things are very drab).

And my other daughter and her partner came up and spent the night and today my son came up and has spent the day with us.  We had a beautiful long trek in the woods which I was really in the mood for and now I'll just post the few pictures I've taken while a rowdy ping pong championship is going on downstairs..

Oh, and last night we had a raclette party for dinner (which I've mentioned way back in previous posts) and today for lunch we had a "make your own" panini fest so it's been good, tasty eating too! :)

Here are the pics:

The newest alpaca - she's around 3 months old now.

 They're strangely attractive, I think.

 Three lovely ladies...
Their hilariously cute new puppy who is about as big as a minute and looks like an animated stuffed toy.

Walking down to the mailbox...
A really pretty chicken...

...and a really gorgeous pheasant who just would not stand still for more than 1 second - he was very disturbed about something.

I didn't take my camera with me on our woodland walk today so I asked my son to take these with his I-phone - just some mushrooms (or should I say toadstools?) but I like how they were in clusters:

And last, but quite impressive - a very large bug that I've never seen before who seems to be a relative of an armadillo or something - he's sporting quite a defensive armor on his back!

A nice, nice weekend...

What a gorgeous weekend to be there and how great that J,M&C were all able to come over for a visit. I'm happy to have Heather living out my dream although my dream never advanced quite far enough to include peacocks -- I'm adding that for my next life. Can't remember when you're going home but hope that good weather continues for your stay. xoxo
