About Me

When I started my retirement travels in 2009, I wanted a way to share it with family and friends as it was happening. Hence, "My Travel Journal". However I realized I wouldn't always be on a trip and wondered what to do with the blog in between times. My daughter pointed out, wisely, that travels can also include trips to the kitchen to try a new recipe, trips to visit family, trips to my neighborhood Starbucks, or a fun day trip with a friend. You're welcome to join me on any of these journeys! I've set up individual pages for each of my major trips (see tabs above).

Also, I have an Etsy shop where my current needlework resides. The last pieces I posted here were in 2013! So if you'd like to see what I have accomplished recently, go to (and I apologize for having to copy and paste):

I recently added an "Italian Word a Day" thingie which shows up at the bottom of every page. You see the word and can click to hear it pronounced. I've been enjoying it and I think my accent is improving as time goes by.

A Big Apology to January

My daughter January gave me my ravioli maker for my birthday and I didn't mention that on my 2-Day Ravioli post because I was sure I had mentioned it before when I mentioned Heather's flowers.  But now I've discovered that once again my strange brain was confused.  The flowers, of course, were for Valentine's day and I didn't get the ravioli maker until March.  So here, so everyone can see what I'm talking about, is a picture of the ravioli maker.

I meant to take a picture last night while I was making the ravioli, but I got in too deep! LOL...But now you can see the serrated or scalloped edges I mentioned and the fact that inside those edges is that lower surface.  That's what I pressed down on the last four I made to avoid those air pockets.  Then I rolled it out, and as I said, with the oil, flour and finger sealing, they look to be pretty near perfect ravioli.

So happy birthday to me from January and thank you very much, January - one of these days hopefully I'll be ready to again make pasta for the family without having a disaster on my hands.

It's really okay. I promise I wasn't even mildly sad :)

I know, I know - but I was! :) It was a nice present and I'm excited about trying it with my spray stuff.

AND...I discovered that the recipe didn't call for one biscotti, it called for one amaretti cookie which when I looked that up turns out to be quite a small almond flavored cookie sort of like a snap. So I'd imagine it wouldn't have been quite so sweet if I had used the right darned thing!!! :)
